Gladiator Word of the Day HW for Periods 1, 3, 5

Choose one of the Gladiator Words, and create mini poster (unlined paper). 

Your mini poster should include the following: 

1. Your Chosen Word (showing how to pronounce the word by identifying the vowel sounds and syllables) 
2. An image/symbol showing what the word means. 
3. A phrase explaining the image. Your phrase must use at least one literary device.

Instead of completing the Gladiator Word of the Day article and GO, you must turn in the below assignment for the Gladiator Word of the Day.

1. Choose a word from this week ONLY (4/15-4/19).
2. Create your GWOD Booklet. (Click on links for directions below).

3.  Create Booklet:  Decorate each page with images and color that represent the word

Front Page:  Title (Gladiator Word of The Day, and the word you chose) Name, Date and Period (1, 3, 5)
First Page(Inside Front Page):  Write out the word showing the vowel sounds and syllables.
Second Page:  Write what the word means. (definition)
Third Page:  Write at least two word forms for the word
Fourth Page: Write a sentence using the word which shows the meaning of what the word means.
Fifth Page: Write an example
Sixth Page: Write a non example of the word
Seventh Page:  an image that demonstrates the words meaning

What is a DISCURSIVE ESSAY?

A DISCURSIVE ESSAY is an essay that focuses on both sides of the topic. Yes, I know when preparing to write a persuasive essay topic we talked about picking a side and sticking to it, but in DISCURSIVE WRITING, you must see both sides of the topic and discuss them. (Like seeing both sides of the argument)

An ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY is an essay that focuses on a point (or argument) you would like to make, and the author uses claims and evidence to support their argument. (Kind of one sided)

Make sure to pay particular attention to the last slide. There you will pick a THESIS STATEMENT/TRANSITION combo, and write a 5 PARAGRAPH essay using the ROGO SMARTIES ESSAY SHEET for planning out your five topics using PLES (see slide 10 to help).
