What is a DISCURSIVE ESSAY?
A DISCURSIVE ESSAY is an essay that focuses on both sides of the topic. Yes, I know when preparing to write a persuasive essay topic we talked about picking a side and sticking to it, but in DISCURSIVE WRITING, you must see both sides of the topic and discuss them. (Like seeing both sides of the argument)
An ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY is an essay that focuses on a point (or argument) you would like to make, and the author uses claims and evidence to support their argument. (Kind of one sided)
Make sure to pay particular attention to the last slide. There you will pick a THESIS STATEMENT/TRANSITION combo, and write a 5 PARAGRAPH essay using the ROGO SMARTIES ESSAY SHEET for planning out your five topics using PLES (see slide 10 to help).
